The Uric Acid Problem
When a dog urinates on artificial turf, the urine soaks through the fibres and into the rubber crumb or sand infill below. As it dries, it forms uric acid crystals — hard, insoluble compounds that bond to the infill and backing. These crystals are the actual source of the ammonia smell.
Water dilutes them temporarily, but the crystals remain. Vinegar neutralises the surface pH briefly but doesn't break down the crystal structure. Commercial "odour eliminators" and fragranced sprays sit on top of the surface. In Perth's summer heat, the crystals off-gas ammonia again — which is why the smell always comes back worse in January.
The only thing that permanently works is enzymatic degradation. Bio-enzymatic cleaners contain live cultures that produce enzymes targeting uric acid and urea. How long does the service take, and do I need to be home?
Most jobs take 45–90 minutes depending on size and condition. You don’t need to be home — just gate access and a tap point. We message you when done and send a photo of the finished result. Many clients have us complete the job while they’re at work.
Is the treatment safe for my dog and kids? When can they go back on the lawn?
All products we use are bio-enzymatic, non-toxic and biodegradable — formulated specifically for pet environments. No bleach, harsh chemicals, or synthetic biocides anywhere in the process.

Very old turf (10+ years) with physically degraded or brittle fibres may have areas that can’t fully recover — we’ll tell you honestly on the day. But the majority of residential lawns that look dead and flat respond very well and come back looking significantly fuller.
